We welcomed this lovely Mummy and Daddy to be in the studio last week for a pregnancy Photo shoot in Plymouth. It was great to meet them, and hear all about their expanding family.
Pregnancy brings a new meaning to the concept of beauty. It is a period of immense joy coupled with excitement. The feeling of carrying a little soul within you is magnificent.

With just days till they meet their little new arrival we snook in a quick maternity portrait session to capture some final memories and moments of pregnancy for Sarah, and her family. Sarah did a wonderful job at 38 weeks pregnant, we did very gentle posing as to not set off any contractions. (although Sarah was keen to get things going so she could meet her baby.)
During the session Sarah said her little baby was kicking away. I hope this is a good omen that he or she likes having their photo’s taken… As I snapped away we discussed babies next two sessions at our studio’s.
One of course being babies newborn session. We discussed colour themes, and special items and props to be used. Sarah wanted to wear our studio lace maternity dress, so it would compliment some of the props we’re going to incorporate into babies newborn shoot.
Not forgetting daddy…….. Of course just like the dress we used our little needle felted Royal Navy cap to incorporate Daddies job into the session a theme which again will continue in babies first portrait session.
“A ship under sail and a big-bellied woman, Are the handsomest two things that can be seen common.”
–Benjamin Franklin
The second session that we discussed for baby is a photo with all her siblings. The parents-to-be told me all about babies big brothers and sisters, and how they can’t wait to meet the new addition. We planned a big group photograph of them all to celebrate the whole family with the new tiny addition.

“You are pregnant and you are powerful. You are bold and you are beautiful. Go forward in your boldness, in your beauty and in your contentedness. Trust your body to birth and know that the collective power of women worldwide will be with you.”

As with all our newborn session that are booked, we offer a complimentary maternity session to our expectant parents. This is a great chance for you to meet me and get to know me before your newborn session. We always have pre-session consultations to plan each session. But sometimes it’s handy to visit the studio before hand, and see all our lovely props first so you can narrow down your choices to the items you really want included during your session.
Pregnancy is a time of great change. Not only for your body but you’r entire life is about to change. Maternity portraits are the perfect way to capture your changing body as you await the arrival of the new addition to your family.
“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers — strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”
—Barbara Katz Rothman
It can also be a time of mixed feelings. The lead up to the birth can be a time where anxiety takes hold, and an uncertainty over what the next few weeks will bring. If you aren’t feeling overjoyed with the changes in your body right now, and the way you’re feeling this is totally normal. Try speaking with your partner, maybe your mum or close relative, or friends. We have many pre-natal services here in Plymouth to help you with preparing for the birth, here’s a few of my favourites.

Maternity session usually take place between 32 weeks and 35 weeks. You want to be pregnant enough that your belly is prominent but not so pregnant that you’re swollen and uncomfortable. We will use flattering lighting and gentle posing to make the most of your natural beauty. We have a range of maternity gowns and props which can also be used during your session.
