Today’s maternity session for Sarah felt so calming and peacful. We used lots of natural light and clean whites to set a really ethereal tone. Her natural beauty made my job easy, there was no need to enhance anything, but just showcase her as she glowed with all the loveliness of being pregnant!

I was is awe of Sarah. Knowing that she had just recently broken her foot, I was expecting her to be wearing a brace but she was determined to have the boot off for these images to be taken.…she even held off a week just to make sure of it! I honestly can’t imagine being in my third trimester and having to deal with a broken foot!

I first met Sarah when she was just 16 weeks into her pregnancy and sporting a lovely tiny baby bump at an Expectant Parent event run by Mothercare. We had a little chat and I recommended that she book her session for when she was around 30 weeks, that way there’s likely to be a nice big baby bump but you’re not too uncomfortable to enjoy the shoot.

Sarah was really proactive on the lead up and knew what she wanted to achieve from the look of her images. She sent me over ideas and inspiration from Pinterest of the styles and shots that she liked. It’s always good to be prepared before a shoot. We all have our own hangups, we know what parts of our bodies we feel comfortable with and those parts that we would rather like to hide. The more you tell me, the more at ease you’ll feel and the better the shots will turn out. I want you to feel comfortable and enjoy the experience.

Sometimes having a little mini makeover can give us a bit more needed confidence whilst having our photos taken. Sarah had asked her friend Sammy (Styled by Sammy) and her sister to give her a natural pretty look for this session, which I believe they totally accomplished with soft tones and gentle wavy locks. Although I don’t currently offer a package that includes hair and makeup artists, I do know many within the city who I can highly recommend for you to use if you’d like that little extra pampering for your shoot. Just let me know beforehand, and I can give you that information, or feel free to book with someone that you already know. There’s even plenty of room for them to come along to the studio if needed.

This is your shoot, and I am always open to taking images of whatever you would like. During this maternity shoot we also took a few commercial branding images for Sarah to use across her social media platforms and website. She brought along some of her beautiful Birth Affirmation Cards, which we included in the session. You can check them out here on her website, along with other lovely clothing and baby accessory products.

After having my very own hypnobirthing experience (I’ll write a blog all about it soon) with my second son I would totally recommend it to every pregnant person! It was so very different from my first birthing experience.

I had such a lovely time chatting to Sarah throughout our session and can not wait to meet baby when he arrives. I look forward to welcoming them both back to the studio for a New Born Session.

Sarah has also written a blog about her experience of this maternity shoot, it’s obviously always nice to read two sides to a story, so go check out her blog post here.
