Usually I start my blogs with we welcomed baby to our studio. This wonderful photo session however I found myself be welcomed into the stunningly beautiful home of D and L just a short walk from the studio, for an in home lifestyle newborn session.
I’ve worked with this beautiful couple for a few years now. On annual seasonal sessions at Christmas time for their amazing daughters, and most recently their beautiful outdoor maternity session. I was so honoured that they asked me to create this bespoke in home lifestyle session, and so honoured that they trusted me with their precious new baby boy.
From the moment I met tiny baby T I was pretty much smitten with him…. he is the most calmest baby I’ve ever met. As I started his newborn session I wrapped him gently with a simple wrap. I was amazed at how happy he was just gazing up at me and taking it all in! I could have cuddled him all day. He had the softest new baby skin, that he hadn’t yet grown into, so was adorned with the most sweetest rolls of baby lovilness. His whispy hair still had strands of his birthday upon it, which just added to his newness.
Moving around their beautiful house, from room to room utilising all the midday natural light that poured into their home. I captured the everyday details of life with a week old newborn. I knew that the couple wanted to immortalise this precious time of their new baby boy. All those tiny details that they didn’t want to miss a second of.
From T’s woodland themed nursery loving decorated with beautiful wooden furniture, and an adorable hand made string of bunting made by L herself during her pregnancy. (We’ll leave out the big blue unsightly Chelsea football shirt, that totally didn’t go with the beautiful autumnal hues! ;-). ) we captured those little baby stretches of toes as they wake from a peaceful dream.
Boys are beyond the range of anyone’s sure understanding, at least when they are between the ages of 18 months and 90 years.
To the beautiful Victorian bay windows flooding the rooms with light and adding a beautiful atmosphere to the photos. Here we captured one of my all time favourite newborn portraits from this beautiful session. D through out my time there casually picked up his guitars and strummed sweet acoustic melodies. It was amazing to capture Tiny T, as he stretches out on his parents bed listening intently to every note his father played.
Baby T is their fourth, and final baby and after three beautiful girls. I know from the month leading up to the birth how they were thrilled they both were to welcome a son. From their Joyful Gathering session this year I also knew how excited the girls were to meet their little brother. I can’t wait to go back in a few weeks time and capture some photo’s of all the children together doting on their new bundle.
I especially love the breastfeeding photos from their in home session. That unbeatable bond between mother and baby. L’s beautiful flowing golden hair and the ethereal light of the dinning room window, made her seem to be an angel protecting, and nurturing her new baby.
I always say my love is in the studio, but after this session I could be swayed into the lifestyle side of photography…. this session felt more like time with friends, then work. For me capturing these moments on such a personal level was breathtaking. I’m so in love with the end results of this beautiful lifestyle session. showing the intimate details of those first few precious weeks with a newborn baby. The light, the emotion, the joy the swirls round the home when a new life has arrived.
You don’t raise heroes, you raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they’ll turn out to be heroes, even if it’s just in your own eyes.

Thank you D and L for welcoming me into your home, and for sharing your wonderful boy with me. For pushing me creatively with this session. It was lovely getting back to basics. Not having everything camera ready in the studio. Finding my angels, and chasing that perfect light…….
