A Hip Hopping Horray for baby H!! Happy first birthday little guy!!

We welcomed this adorable cheeky Chappy to the studio for his first birthday cake smash!! The cheeky grins, giggles, and lots and lots of splashing all made for a wonderful cake smash session!!

We started planning the cake smash photo shoot with baby H’s mummy during her pre-session consultation. She was a little unsure of a theme to pick, so we discussed colour themes of their home, and we went over a few idea’s. During the discussion she had mentioned a recent purchase she had made at the wonderful Eva’s World shop here in Plymouth. (If you haven’t been yet, you really must! It’s the most colourful collection of clothes you could wish for!! The patterns, and prints are to die for, and showcase the beauty and imagination that childhood brings! She then went on to send me a couple of outfit choices she was planning to bring.

One being the most adorable Frugi frog – Lovely day dungeree’s. Well that was it!! How could we not theme the session around this adorable print!! The reappearing pattern of cheeky frogs happily splashing away seem’s to sum up baby H’s personality brilliantly. The print is playful and colourful, and lends itself so well for a fun and exciting theme!

I set to work on building a set around the fun frolicking frogs of the Frugi print! Taking my inspiration from two of the main frogs in the design, as well as the colourful blooming bulrushes and fluttering fireflies, I designed baby H his own little frog pond for his cake smash session, the perfect place for getting messy, and very wet!

Our wonderful cake maker Lorna of Ezzie Cakes did not let me down, I sent her the dungaree’s design, and she created this wonderful Frugi birthday cake that perfectly matched the theme!! It couldn’t have been more perfect, and just what I had envisioned for the set. Tying it all up beautifully, and the icing on the cake really was the handmade bespoke cake topper made by Faithful Designs. Again pulling in all those vivid greens from the set, and adding some little lilly pads to finish it off! A little work of art all on its own!!!

I knew from Mum that baby H had been having a few difficulties with weaning onto solid foods, I think we were both a little nervous as to how little H would do with eating the yummy cake….. Well we need not have worried as the little champ got stuck straight in with demolishing his cake. He loved liking the icing from his fingers and then soon got himself an enormous handful of wonderful birthday cake, which he devoured and smushed all over his mush!!

Proud big brother C also got in on the action. Stealing a lick of the spoon, and was an excellent bubble blower when tub time came around!!

“Brother – a person who is there when you need him; someone who picks you up when you fall; a person who sticks up for you when no one else will; a brother is always a friend.”

Speaking of tub time!! I was told by little H’a Mummy he liked to splash! ‘N’ boy she wasn’t wrong!! Literally as soon as his tiny toes touched the water he was away!! I think we were all covered by the end of the session, but it was a delight to see just how much he loved his tub time!!

We wrapped up the session with some beautiful portraits of both boys! Despite the age cap the bond between these two brothers is wonderful!! Watching them laugh and giggle together was a joy to be able to capture.

Do you have a wonderful theme you’d like to discuss with me? As you’ve read above and seen below, we can literally take our inspiration from anything. Maybe is your little one’s nursery like our recent mountain cake smash. Or maybe their favourite character like little M’s cake smash. It could even be a passion that the whole family share like this surfing inspired cake smash.

Inspiration is everywhere & often in unexpected places: you just have to keep your eyes open, and your mind full of wonder and possibilities.
